The newly opened Expressionists at the Tate Modern is hot on the heels of the Making Modernism exhibition at the Royal Academy in 2022, featuring two of the stars, and a few of the same paintings by, Gabriele Münter and Marianne Werefkin. To quote myself “Munter and Werefkin were friends and both partners to famous painters who overshadowed their talent. They created vibrant, brightly coloured paintings making use of humour. Werefkin was the standout for me.” No surprises then that I felt the same re this exhibition and really enjoyed seeing more of their work. It was interesting to see some Kandinsky but I found myself drawn more to the wonderful Franz Marc. Love the tiger. On until 20th October and I would recommend buying a ticket.
